In a united effort to support those affected by the recent wildfires, Shepherd Church in Porter Ranch, Los Angeles City Councilmember John Lee, and The Change Reaction have joined forces to provide direct financial relief to individuals and families in need. A total of 60 local residents, identified by Councilmember Lee, Shepherd Church, and other community leaders, received checks ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 through The Change Reaction’s Wildfire Direct Giving Fund. 

Over the course of the last year, my office has been working closely with the Los Angeles Police Department and Bureau of Street Lighting on a plan to install 100 Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras in all communities throughout Council District 12.

Alongside LAPD Chief Dominic Choi and our officers, I was proud to officially announce the implementation of this technology and discuss the benefits it will bring to our neighborhoods.

The Annual Making Movies That Matter Youth Short Film Festival was an outstanding success this year!

May is celebrated as Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. To commemorate this month and celebrate the various cultures that make up the AAPI community, the city will host multiple community events. In partnership with Mayor Bass, Councilmembers De Leon and Raman, my office co-hosted a celebration at City Hall to mark the beginning of this month-long celebration.

On Tuesday, Council District 12 residents spoke and spoke loudly. I am honored and humbled to be re-elected as Councilmember of the 12th District. As a resident of Council District 12 for over 40 years, it means everything to my family and I to have the support of the community that raised me. Overwhelmingly, voters in Council District 12 made it clear that you want a representative who is keenly focused on increasing public safety, tackling the homelessness crisis, supporting local businesses, and improving the community’s overall quality of life.

The Los Angeles Unified School District formally announced plans to address the capacity issues at the Porter Ranch Community School. This plan successfully meets the demands of passionate parents and ensures that students attending the school are able to remain in attendance and will not be forced to relocate to a different campus.

I am thrilled to share the latest volume of our Council District 12 Year in Review. As you read through, you will find a concise overview of the achievements we have made over the past year. Together, we have continued to address public safety concerns, preserve and protect our green spaces, and have made critically important progress on the homelessness crisis. 

While there is still more work to be done, I am honored to serve as your Los Angeles City Councilmember and am excited to build upon our collective progress and successes.  

Last week, in response to the increase in property crimes seen across the city, and acutely in parts of Council District 12, I introduced a motion instructing the Los Angeles Police Department, the Bureau of Street Lighting, and the Department of Transportation to begin the process of installing Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) in our community.

ALPRs can help narrow the search for vehicles tied to crimes by allowing law enforcement agencies to see patterns of behavior in the incoming and outgoing traffic of a particular neighborhood or area. 

It was my honor to join @mayorofla, @lindseyphorvath and a delegation of leaders from the California Legislature to celebrate the allocation of funding for safety improvements at the Devonshire Lodge operated by @volunteers_of_america in Chatsworth.
