Last week, in response to the increase in property crimes seen across the city, and acutely in parts of Council District 12, I introduced a motion instructing the Los Angeles Police Department, the Bureau of Street Lighting, and the Department of Transportation to begin the process of installing Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) in our community.
ALPRs can help narrow the search for vehicles tied to crimes by allowing law enforcement agencies to see patterns of behavior in the incoming and outgoing traffic of a particular neighborhood or area.
I am pleased to announce that the motion was approved by the rest of the City Council today by an 11-1 vote. This project will help to keep criminals accountable as well as deter these crimes from taking place. I look forward to updating you on the progress of this project.
